Megafauna – Arroyo del vizcaíno

Giantmammals from the pastDiscoverthe site of the findings

Secrets from the mists of time, past realities we take a peep at, palaeontology is the discipline which interprets fossils. Such treasures that miraculously escape from the continuous recycling of Nature bring us knowledge, awe and useful lessons for the present. Here we show one example of the delights of this discipline: the discovery made at Arroyo del Vizcaíno, in Canelones, Uruguay, depicts the long-gone giant mammals as they were and, in addition, offers unexpected evidence of human presence far earlier than had been accepted.

In this video of the series “¿Qué es?”, made by the Programme for the Development of Fundamental Science (PEDECIBA) of the Universidad de la República, Uruguay, the palaeontologists tell (in Spanish) how the work is undertaken in the site, which fossils are found and the importance of the finding.
